About

Mainichi Kanji Note helps you practice writing Japanese kanji every day—five characters at a time—with stroke-order guidance on your phone or tablet.

For first-time users

How to use this kanji practice site

Practice 5 kanji a day on your smartphone or tablet. You can start right away without a notebook or pencil.

The practice screen uses simple Japanese with furigana. It is designed so Japanese learners can practice while becoming familiar with the language.

  1. Choose a course

Choose “JLPT Kanji” or “Japanese School Kanji,” then select your level.

    🌏 JLPT N5 · N4 · N3 · N2 · N1🎒 Kanji taught in Grades 1–3
  2. See today’s 5 kanji

You will receive 5 kanji to practice that day. Previously learned kanji may also appear for review.

  3. Check readings and stroke order

Learn the on-reading, kun-reading, and an example word. You can replay the large stroke-order model as many times as you need.

  4. Write each kanji 5 times

Boxes 1–3 check your stroke order. Follow the model and write with your finger or a stylus.

Boxes 4–5 are free practice without stroke-order checking. Complete all 5 boxes to move to the next kanji.
